Posting your resume online is an easy, and somewhat low risk avenue to have employers contact you about potential job opportunities.
Rather than going out and researching companies and open positions...by posting your resume online, you're allowing the jobs to come to you.
The downside is that only jobs that are difficult to fill will come to you. If a job has many applicants and is quite popular, the employer will not spend time searching resume database.
As a result, if you're a therapy professional who is somewhat flexible with your career search, online resume databases are a great, low-risk place to start. On the other hand, if you've got your heart set on a particular set of requirements in a popular geographic location, posting your resume online likely won't be of much help.
Most resume databases are free (for job seekers), so the downside is pretty minimal.
Side Note: If you haven't discussed with your employer about your job search and they come across your resume online, you could potentially face termination or awkward tensions at work.
For the most part, posting your resume online is an easy way to allow interested employers contact you with little effort on your part.
