If I've never visited the employer because it's in a different city or state, how can I be sure it's a good fit?

Congrats! You're thinking of relocating. Moving to a new city or state is scary and thrilling all at the same time. Starting a new job- especially when you've never spent time at the facility- can be just as scary.

If you can, make a trip to the potential workplace. Use up the last of that PTO and take a long weekend to your possible new home. Set up an in-person interview, ask to meet with other employees, and take the time to tour both the workplace and the surrounding area.

Bring a checklist of things that are important to you and focus on those items. Even by spending a few hours visualizing yourself at work and at home in this new setting, you'll likely get a gut feeling whether it would be a good fit or not.

Unfortunately, it's not always possible to visit a place before making a commitment. In that case, take advantage of the internet! Many facilities have online photos, virtual tours, and videos about their services. You can also connect with current employees to learn about workplace morale and culture to determine whether it will be a good fit.
