There are many ways to find out about residencies in your area. Both traditional and non-traditional residency models exist. If you want to stay in the region you currently reside in, ask your local clinics if they offer a residency program.
Non-traditional models typically allow you to join the team and begin a residency simultaneously. Traditional models may require you to search outside your current region to relocate for the opportunity.
With this model, a set number of positions are set aside each year for an incoming cohort. For some, this may be the ideal situation and as a result, you may travel out of your region for this experience. The decision between these two models is obviously a personal decision depending on your life circumstances and career preferences.
Should you choose this more non-traditional route, my advice would be to seek out the culture that fits you the best. Should you find the right fit, you will in turn play a role in further stabilizing this culture, which is hopefully a culture of clinical excellence throughout the entire team.
